This privacy statement explains what personal data we collect and use, for what purpose, and what your rights are. iChoosr complies with applicable data protection laws, such as PIPEDA.

Personal data we collect
When you take part in a campaign or use our websites, you may provide certain information. We need this data to register your participation, prepare an offer, or maintain contact with you.
We may collect and process the following categories of personal data:
- Contact details: name, address, city, telephone number, and email address
- Participation and property details: information such as energy use, type of property, or roof surface
- Financial details: bank details and account holder name (only where a payment or deposit is required)
- Salutation and date of birth: when needed for identification or contract purposes
- Technical information: IP address, cookie preferences, browser, and device details
- Information from forms or surveys: for example, your answers or feedback
If you provide additional information (such as photos or comments in a form), we will only use it for the specific purpose for which it was submitted.
How we use your data
We process your personal data only for clear and legitimate purposes and rely on one or more of the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: for example, to register your participation, organise an auction, send you an offer, and share your details with the supplier who will carry out the service.
- Consent: for example, when you sign up for email updates about new campaigns or energy services. You can withdraw your consent at any time via the unsubscribe link at the bottom of our emails.
- Legitimate interest: for example, to analyse campaign performance and improve our services, to invite you to participate in voluntary customer satisfaction surveys, and to maintain the security of our systems. Our legitimate interest in each case is to operate and continuously improve our services for the benefit of all participants. We always conduct a balancing assessment to ensure that your interests and fundamental rights are not overridden. You have the right to object to this processing at any time - see the 'Your rights' section below.
- Legal obligation: for example, to retain records for tax purposes.
In some campaigns, we assess whether your home or situation qualifies for participation.
We first collect all registrations and share only aggregated information (such as the total number of participants) with suppliers. Suppliers never receive personal data that could directly identify you.
After the auction, you will receive a personal offer. If you accept it, you enter into a contract with the supplier, and we share your details so that the supplier can contact you.
Do you have to provide your personal data?
Providing your contact details and participation information is necessary to register for a campaign and receive a personal offer. Without this information, we are unable to process your registration or deliver our services. Providing financial details (such as bank number) is only required where a payment or deposit applies. Technical information is collected automatically when you visit our website; you may be able to adjust this through your browser or cookie settings.
Data retention
We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected. The retention period is calculated from your most recent registration.
In determining how long we keep your data, we apply the following criteria:
- Marketing: we retain your data for marketing purposes for a maximum of 5 years, or until you unsubscribe, in which case your details are removed from our marketing lists within one working week.
- Service delivery and warranty: where a service or product has been delivered (for example a manufacturer warranty obligations on solar panels, battery, or insulation installation), we retain the data necessary to support contractual and warranty obligations for up to 15 years.
- Legal obligations: certain records, such as those required for tax purposes, are retained for the period prescribed by applicable law.
After these periods, your personal data is deleted or anonymised. Once anonymised, the data is no longer personal data under the GDPR and may be retained indefinitely for statistical and historical purposes.
Communication
We usually communicate with you by email, using the address provided during registration. Occasionally, we may send you a reminder via SMS.
We distinguish between service messages and marketing messages.
- Service messages are necessary for your participation in iChoosr campaigns. Examples include but are not limited to registration confirmations, reminders before your offer expires, or practical information about webinars. You always receive these messages because they are directly related to your participation.
- Marketing messages may include information about new campaigns or energy-related services offered by iChoosr. You only receive these if you have given your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link at the bottom of our emails.
We may, only where you have given us prior consent to, also contact you by phone for voluntary feedback or satisfaction surveys.
Sharing and international transfers
Community leaders
We sometimes organise group purchase campaigns in collaboration with a local community leader (such as a municipality, province, or member organisation).
The community leader receives limited participant information for the purpose of running the campaign and updating their own contact records. They will only contact you for marketing or promotional purposes if you have given separate and explicit consent to them. You can withdraw that consent at any time by contacting the community leader directly or by clicking 'unsubscribe' in their email communications.
We may receive contact details from community leaders who have your consent to share them with us.
Winning supplier
Before the auction, we may share anonymised or aggregated statistics with (potential) suppliers, for example, the total number of participants, regional interest, or average energy usage. These statistics do not contain any personal data and cannot be traced back to individual participants.
If you accept a personal offer after the auction, we share your personal data with the supplier who has won the group purchase. This transfer is necessary to perform the contract and to ensure the supplier can contact you and deliver the service.
The supplier receives only the information required to carry out the agreement and may not use your data for other purposes unless you have separately consented to this.
Other parties
We do not share your personal data with other third parties unless:
- you have given your explicit consent, or
- we are legally required to do so.
We may, however, use trusted service providers who support us in our operations (for example, IT providers or research agencies). These service providers act solely on our behalf and are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.
International transfers
Some of our service providers or systems may be located outside Canada. The specific countries to which your data may be transferred depend on the campaign you participate in, and may include the United States of America.
Whenever your personal data is transferred to a country that does not provide a level of data protection equivalent to that of Canada, we put appropriate safeguards in place to ensure your data remains protected. Depending on the destination, these safeguards may include:
- a formal recognition by the relevant authority in Canada that the destination country offers an adequate level of protection (for example, an adequacy decision);
- contractual safeguards approved or recognised by the relevant authority (for example, standard contractual clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or equivalent contractual mechanisms); or
- other safeguards permitted under applicable data protection law in Canada.
You can request more information about the specific safeguards in place for a transfer that concerns you by contacting us at the address listed below.
Automated decision-making and profiling
We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you (as referred to in Article 22 of the GDPR). Where we assess whether a property or situation qualifies for campaign participation, this involves human review and is not a fully automated decision.
If this changes in the future, we will update this privacy statement and notify you accordingly.
Your rights
You have several rights under data protection law. These include the right to:
- request access to the personal data we hold about you
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- request deletion of your data (the 'right to be forgotten'), subject to certain conditions
- receive a portable copy of your data (data portability), where processing is based on your consent or a contract and is carried out by automated means - this allows you to transfer your data to another service provider
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests or carried out for direct marketing purposes - if you object to direct marketing, we will stop immediately; for other legitimate interest processing, we will stop unless we have compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests and rights
- restrict certain processing activities while your objection or a rectification request is being assessed
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal
Some of your details can be viewed or updated via the My details page of your registration.
For other requests, you can use the contact form on our website.
To protect your data, we may ask you to verify your identity before processing your request. For example, by answering security questions or providing a copy of your ID (with your photo and personal number obscured – you can use your government's ID Copy app for this).
Supervisory authorities
If you have a concern or complaint about how your personal data is handled, we encourage you to contact us first.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority without prior contact with us.
For Canada, this is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: https://www.priv.gc.ca/en/
For other countries, please refer to the local supervisory authority's website.
Changes to the privacy statement
We may update this privacy statement from time to time, for example to reflect changes in legislation or our services. The most recent version will always be available at Privacy & Disclaimer — iChoosr. If we make significant changes, we will notify participants directly, for example by email.
